Nintendo DS Lite Blog

We all have our favorite colors and we all have our different reasons for it. I thought it would be interesting and a bit of fun to do some research on what different colors mean in our lives.

I thought I would start with the two opposite ends of the spectrum Black and White. Why? You may ask. Because my sons football team wears the black and white colors and for me that was as good a reason as any :)

Black or White

Technically, both black and white are non-colors; they are derived from either the absence or presence of light. They go hand in hand…where there is black there is white. White reflects light; whereas black absorbs light. Black is concealing; white is revealing.

In symbolic terms, white is depicted as pure, good and holy. Black is the color that is used to indicate death, fear, darkness and evil. White is the dawning of a new life and a fresh beginning; black is the end, the finale, the curtain coming down.

White is stark and bright…we all notice it’s presence; black on the other hand recedes from sight - even on the darkest night our eyes intensify their focus until the blackness fades away.

So what does all this mean and how does it affect us in our everyday lives?

Wearing black clothes makes us feel less conspicuous. We tend to blend in more and to not be as noticeable. People who are perhaps a little self-conscious about their weight for example, have a tendancy to wear black as it makes them feel and look slimmer….black recedes.

When we wear white clothes, how do we feel then? Usually it’s summer and we’re feeling happy and light and we want everybody to know it. It’s fresh and revitalising and wearing white gives our psyche a great clean out.

So what does this have to do with your Nintendo DS Lite console? Nothing really, although the color you choose to buy is a reflection of your personality.
